Hand Trolleys & Sack Trucks
HERMEQ hand trolleys and sack trucks move loads around warehouses, offices and construction sites with less lifting and carrying. The range includes the traditional sack truck in several load capacities and the 3 in 1 sack truck, which converts between a sack truck, a platform truck and a four wheel transporter. It also includes the stairclimbing sack truck, whose star wheels take loads up and down stairs. Alongside them are site trolleys for sheet materials, pipes, beams, bundles and waste, with manual and electric models in the pallet trucks range.
Sack trucks and hand trucks
Sack trucks carry upright, boxed and bagged loads up to 250kg. The right one depends on the shape of the load, the handle and the route.
Sack trucks
The traditional sack trucks, from 150kg models to the 250kg heavy duty sack trucks, are the everyday hand truck for bags of cement and plaster, boxes, cases and stacked goods moved across a yard, warehouse floor or dock.
Trader trucks
A trader truck is an all welded, modern alternative to the traditional sack truck, built for warehouses, building sites and docks. It comes with 200mm solid rubber tyres for rough ground or larger pneumatic tyres for a smoother ride, and both versions carry up to 200kg.
Splay back sack trucks
The curved back of a splay back sack truck cradles sacks and rounded or bulky loads that would roll off a flat frame. A one piece toe iron and centre strap support the load, and a choice of arm widths matches the back to the goods carried.
Euro loop handle trucks
Continuous loop handles let the operator push, pull and steer a Euro loop handle truck from any hand position. This keeps it under control on ramps, in tight aisles and while turning a load. It is made with two back widths and a fixed or fold up toe plate.
3 in 1 sack trucks
A 3 in 1 sack truck is made in standard or heavy duty build. Choose it when one truck has to move upright loads as well as flat or long ones that would not balance on a toe plate.
Stairclimbing sack trucks
A sack truck takes loads up and down stairs when it has star wheels. Three wheels on each side turn over the step edge in sequence, so the load is not lifted one step at a time, and the same clusters ride over uneven ground. The heavy duty stairclimbing sack truck carries the heavier loads. The lightweight stair climber truck is the easier of the two to handle between floors.

Site trolleys for sheet, pipe and bulk materials
Sheets, pipes, beams and bulk materials will not balance on a toe plate, so each has a trolley built around its shape, with capacities up to 2 tonnes on the mobile pipe rack.
Sheet material trolleys
A sheet material trolley for plasterboard also carries plywood, timber and metal sheet. It takes boards from the delivery point to the room where they are fixed, so dryliners do not carry them one at a time.
Pipe trolleys, pipe carts and pipe racks
The pipe trolley stores and moves pipe and duct, with a mesh base for fittings and a cover over the sharp ends. A pipe cart is the lighter choice for wheeling pipe and steel sections from the stack to the workface across rough ground. For the heaviest loads of long lengths, the mobile pipe rack comes in two load ratings.
Beam carts
A beam cart carries a single steel beam that is too heavy to carry and too long for a platform, so it can be wheeled to where it is lifted into place.
Platform, bundle and pallet trolleys
The platform trolley is a raised, steerable deck for heavy boxed goods and loose materials, loaded at a comfortable height. The bundle trolley has a mesh base for large volumes of materials and site equipment, and one person moves it by its built-in handles. The folding pallet trolley takes pallets, bundles and tonne bags and moves in any direction on four swivel castors.
Tilt trucks
A tilt truck collects rubble, packaging and waste and empties it when tipped on its handles. Crane lifting eyes let it double as a crane tub.
Drum handling, cable and transformer trolleys
Cable drums, transformers and fluid drums are awkward to grip. Each has a trolley that holds it, so it does not have to be rolled or carried by hand.
Cable spool carts
Electricians use a cable spool cart to carry several cable drums at once. Each drum pays out through an anti-tangle bar, so runs are pulled straight from the cart. Lockable storage keeps hand tools with the cable, and puncture-proof wheels cross rough ground.
Transformer trolleys
A transformer trolley lets one person move a transformer that would otherwise take several people to lift. Rubber pads protect the casing on the way.
Electric drum carts
The electric drum cart carries a 205 litre plastic or steel drum under power, forward and in reverse, with ratchet straps holding it in place. It climbs slopes and crosses grass and gravel, so full drums reach plant and compounds away from hard standing.

Sack truck wheels and toe plates
Once the capacity is settled, the wheels and toe plate decide how a sack truck handles its route and where it is kept.
Solid or pneumatic tyres
Solid puncture-proof tyres suit building sites, where rubble, screws and nails would flatten an air-filled tyre, and they never need pumping. Pneumatic tyres absorb more shock. That gives the operator a smoother push and protects glass, appliances and other loads that do not tolerate vibration.
Wheel size
Wheel diameters across the sack trucks run from 160mm to 260mm. A larger wheel rolls over kerbs, door thresholds, cable covers and broken ground with less effort and less jolting, so the bigger sizes belong on yards, footpaths and site routes. A smaller wheel keeps the truck compact on smooth floors.
Folding or fixed toe plate
A fixed plate toe is always ready to load, which suits a truck that stays in one warehouse, shop or yard. A folding toe swings up against the frame, so the truck stores flatter in a van, site cabin or store room. The sack truck and the Euro loop handle truck are both made with either.
Hand trolleys for warehouses, docks and clean areas
A hand trolley for a loading dock is chosen on different points from one for a food or wash-down area.
Warehouses, docks and loading bays
Warehouse and dock work is a series of short, repeated moves between lorry, bay and rack, so steering and handle shape count on every trip. The trader truck and the Euro loop handle truck are the usual choices for this work.
Food, wet and hygienic areas
The sack truck is also made in stainless steel, in 150kg and 200kg versions, for food production, kitchens, cold stores and other areas that are washed down. Pallets in the same areas move on the stainless steel pallet truck or the galvanised pallet truck, both in the pallet trucks range.

Frequently Asked Questions
In most use the names describe the same tool: an upright frame on two wheels with a toe plate at the foot that slides under the load. Sack truck is the usual name on sites, and hand truck, sack trolley and hand cart are used for the same tool. Hand trolley is often used more loosely for any trolley pushed by hand, including platform and four wheel types.
Place the heaviest part of the load low and against the back of the frame, so its weight sits over the axle when the truck is tilted back. A load that sits too far forward forces the operator to tilt the truck further and push from a stooped position. It also strains the frame, even when the weight is within the rated capacity. Strap tall or loose loads, and keep the stack low enough to see the route ahead.
A sack truck moves goods that can be stacked or stood on a toe plate, up to the weight one person can balance. Goods already on a pallet belong on a pallet truck, which lifts the whole pallet clear of the floor and carries far heavier loads. Manual, high lift, weighing and electric models are in the pallet trucks range.
The folding pallet trolley is sized to pass through doorways and along corridors, so it can move pallets, bundles and tonne bags inside a building during a fit-out. The sheet material trolley turns through doorways and round corners on its swivel wheels. Measure the narrowest door, lift or corridor on the route and compare it with the width on the product page before ordering.
The pipe trolley and the bundle trolley both fold down and stack. The mobile pipe rack folds for transport and storage, and the folding pallet trolley folds to a fraction of its working length. Empty tilt trucks stack on one another, so a set takes little room in the compound between jobs.
