Stillages, Bins & Cages
Stillages, bins and cages are steel storage and handling units for construction sites, yards, depots and warehouses. Post pallets, steel fitting bins, mesh and sheet stillages, panel stillages and crane lift cages give each kind of site stock its own unit, so fittings, tube, panels and palletised goods are counted, stored and moved together. Stacking feet let units stand on one another to make more of warehouse and yard space. Welded box section frames with steel sheet or mesh sides hold the load in transit, forklift guides and pockets let a fork truck pick units up cleanly, and the crane lift cages carry lifting eyes or lugs.
Stillages, post pallets and fitting bins
The shape of the load decides the stillage: loose fittings go in a solid bin, long tube on a post stillage or tube rack, palletised stock in a pallet stillage and hand-picked parts in a drop front unit.
Post pallets and post stillages
Post stillages suit bulky or awkwardly shaped loads that will not sit in a box, such as tube, timber and formwork, because the open sides let a forklift or a gang load from any side and the corner posts carry the unit stacked above. A solid base post pallet is the choice for loose items that would drop through a framed base, and the stackable mesh storage pallet has a mesh base and two mesh sides to hold the load. For longer loads, the double metal stillage and the triple metal stillage run to 1.81m and 2.69m in length, and post pallets with removable arms are the demountable version.
Steel fitting bins
Steel fitting bins are solid boxes that keep scaffold fittings and other small parts together, so they travel to the job and back as one counted load. Dedicated bins keep one part each: the fence clip bin holds temporary fence couplers, and the road form stakes bin keeps stakes together between projects. The solid steel storage bin is a deeper box for warehouse and yard stock, the mesh fitting bin is its open-sided counterpart, and the Vinnie Bin is the large bin for bulk tube and fittings.
Scaffolding and pipe stillages
Long tube, pipe and rod need a stillage that holds their full length and stops them rolling out. The extended stillage for pipe and tube has arms along both sides to keep long items in, and the rack storage cage for scaffold tube and pipe is a framed cage for tube, pipe and rod held in bulk. Scaffold tube stackers, also called U stackers, stack scaffold tube in bundles, and the block and coupler stillage keeps the fittings and blocks that go with it.
Box stillages with drop fronts
In a store where parts are picked by hand from stacked units, a drop front lets the stock in a lower stillage be reached without lifting off the unit above. Stackable steel stillages and stackable mesh stillages are built with full sides, a half drop front or a full panel drop front, so the opening can follow how often the unit is picked. Chute front pallets are smaller units with an open front for picking components from a shelf or bench. For larger stock, the drop door storage cage has a drop door in one side and forklift guides for stacking, and the gitterbox mesh stillage has a half drop front on its long side, in fixed and folding versions.
Euro pallet and oversized pallet stillages
Palletised stock can be stacked without racking once each loaded pallet sits in its own steel frame. Euro pallet stillages are made to take standard timber euro pallets, and the oversized pallet stillage takes loads too wide for a euro pallet, with forklift guides for lifting each unit onto the one below.
Collapsible pallet cages
A collapsible cage folds flat when empty, which saves space on a return lorry and in the store between jobs. The zinc-plated collapsible pallet cage and the collapsible stillage pallet cage, which has a reinforced base, are for site and warehouse storage, and the folding wire cages are welded steel bar units in a choice of sizes. The stackable pallet cage and the foldable wire mesh pallet cage fold flat in the same way, and the full selection of wire mesh pallet cages has its own category.
Fence, hoarding and barrier stillages
Temporary works panels are stored and delivered in stillages built for one panel type. The crowd control barrier stillage and the hoarding panel stillage for 2.0 m and 2.4 m panels sit alongside the temporary fencing stillage for mesh fence panels. The edge protection stillage does the same job for edge protection barriers. Each holds a set count of panels, from 20 to 50 depending on the type, so a depot or event yard sizes its stillages to the panel stock it carries.
Gas cylinder, drum and hazardous substance cages
Gas cylinder cages and the heavy duty gas bottle cage keep cylinders secure when they are not in use, and the stackable drum stillage holds oil drums with removable side braces. The hazardous substance storage cage has a welded sump under a grated floor and mesh sides for ventilation, for oils, fuels and gases.

Crane lift cages and forklift stillages
A load that goes up a building or across a site on a crane hook travels in a cage built with lifting eyes or lugs, while storage stillages, post pallets and fitting bins are moved by forklift or telehandler and are never slung. The lifting cages are rated up to 3 tonnes SWL. Crane lift goods cages carry materials and equipment to working levels, and the heavy duty goods carrying cage has ramp versions for loads that are wheeled in. The forklift and crane lifting crate is a lockable sheet steel box for tools and equipment that must stay secure on a large site. The IBC lifting cage carries a single IBC, the wheelie bin crane cage lifts several wheelie bins of site waste at once, and the rigging storage cage keeps chains, slings, shackles and hooks together.
A cage lifted by crane is lifting equipment. It is thoroughly examined by a competent person as the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 require, and each lift is carried out to the site's lift plan, with the cage loaded within its safe working load.
Solid, mesh and plastic stillages
Solid sheet or mesh sides
Solid sheet sides are the choice for small fittings, granular materials and anything loose enough to slip through a gap. Mesh sides suit larger items and units kept in an open yard, because rain drains through instead of pooling in the base, and the stock level shows from the aisle or the forklift seat.
Plastic pallet boxes
The plastic stillages in the range are heavy duty plastic pallet boxes, with smooth inner walls that empty cleanly and wash out and dry between loads. The plastic industrial pallet box is made to the buyer's requirements, and the drop front plastic pallet box has a drop door for taking stock out without tipping the box.
Painted, galvanised or self-colour
Self-colour steel is supplied unpainted and suits dry indoor stores. Painted, galvanised and zinc-plated finishes are the choice for units that stand in an open yard. Most bins, post pallets and stillages in the range come in several painted colours, so a site or depot can run its own colour code, with one colour per contractor, job or store, which brings units back to where they were sent.

Frequently Asked Questions
A post pallet is an open steel base with a post at each corner and no sides, used for bulky loads and stacked on its posts. A stillage is the wider term for a steel storage and transport unit, and usually has sheet or mesh sides or a frame shaped to one load, such as fence panels or tube. The trade uses the names loosely, and post pallets are often called post stillages or scaffolding stillages.
Demountable post pallets have corner posts or arms that lift out of the base. With the arms out, the pallet can be loaded and unloaded from any side, and empty bases stack flat to take less room in the store or on a lorry.
Many units in the range, including the stackable steel and mesh stillages and several pallet cages, are listed as stacking up to four high, and each product page gives its own limit. Stack like on like, on firm and level ground, with every unit within its rated load and the heaviest loads at the bottom.
Yes. The rigging storage cage has a hinged door that takes a padlock, the forklift and crane lifting crate closes with steel deadbolts, and the wheelie bin crane cage has lockable gates.
The stackable drum stillage and the heavy duty gas bottle cage can be fitted with castors. For moving long loads by hand, the heavy duty pipe trolley carries pipe, rod and tubing, and the crowd barrier trolley carries crowd control, road and pedestrian barriers.
